Welcome to Crumpled Potter. I make simple, useful pieces for everyday living - jugs, bowls, candlesticks and other things that bring a bit of calm and beauty to a table or shelf.

The works happens slowly here in West Sussex, speed is the enemy of ceramics with time required for making, trimming, drying, firing, glazing and firing again. Rushing any part of the process can be costly and patience is necessary skill to master.

THE MAKING PROCESS

The Art of Making

STEP 1

SHAPE

Clay is hand-formed or wheel-thrown into its desired design.

STEP 2

REFINE

Each piece is trimmed, detailed, and left to dry.

STEP 3

BISQUE FIRE

The dried clay is kiln-fired to strengthen and prepare it for glazing.

STEP 4

GLAZE & FIRE

Glaze is applied before a final firing, creating a durable, finished piece.
